In our words
A book born out of the need to act and reflect on the ongoing situation in Gaza as well as putting this conflict in a historical context. On October 7 2023 Hamas soldiers from Gaza attacked Israel killing around 1139 Israelis, including 766 civilians and 38 children and more than 200 people were taken captive. Israel declared war on Gaza and responded with extensive air strikes, shelling and a ground invasion that to this day has taken more than 29,000 lives, the vast majority of whom were civilians, including over 10,000 children.
The book GZA On Land and Air focuses on the current situation for the population in Gaza as well as the opening and closing of the Gaza International Airport, a symbol of hope for an independent state of Palestine, is part of a pattern of hope and destruction in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The history of the airport is told as a background to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, where Hind Khoudary, a journalist in Gaza, tweets from October 7, 2023, to January 14, 100 days. Muhammad Shehada has written Gaza's Past, Present, and Future putting the current situation in a historical context. Kent Klich/ Tina Enghoff, idea, photographs, editing and layout.
